sour|dough «SOWR DOH», noun, adjective. Informal.

1. a) a prospector or pioneer in Alaska or Canada, especially in Yukon. b) any old resident, experienced hand, or the like; person who is not a tenderfoot.
2. Also, sour dough. fermented dough saved from one baking to start fermentation in the next, such as was used by the original prospectors in Yukon.
